A continuum of care supporting academic achievement, emotional wellness, and personal development
At Bes & Beset - Leland Jackson Foundation Inc., our institute provides a continuum of care that supports academic achievement, emotional wellness, and personal development. With structure at the core and restoration as the goal, we guide students through meaningful development across six key areas.
We provide customized academic plans tailored to each student's learning profile. Small class sizes allow focused instruction and participation, while academic interventions support students with common learning disabilities. Through dedicated study sessions, enrichment activities, and creative engagement, students build confidence in their capabilities and take pride in their academic journey.
We embed trauma-informed care into the academy's culture to support students' emotional wellness. Staff receive training in trauma support education to better understand and respond to behavioral patterns with empathy and clarity. Youth are taught emotional regulation techniques and guided through moments of stress with care and intention. Group workshops, quiet zones, and mentorship activities offer students space to process, connect, and heal.
Our academy supports youth with non-medical learning challenges by offering flexible accommodations and tailored academic strategies. We work exclusively with child welfare agencies, vetted emergency shelters, nonprofit organizations operating as child welfare providers, and house parents screened through formal channels. These partnerships ensure that referrals align with best practices and the specific needs of displaced youth. In collaboration with referring entities and families, we set individualized learning goals and provide coaching in essential life skills such as time management, communication, and self-advocacy. Students are seen as capable learners, empowered to grow with clarity and consistency.
We incorporate cultural enrichment as a key element of student identity and belonging. Through rites of passage experiences, heritage-based activities, and creative exploration, students connect with history, storytelling, and community. These offerings support pride, purpose, and the affirmation of every child's personal journey.
Spiritual grounding is thoughtfully woven into our daily structure, beginning each morning with devotion. This reflective time allows students to center themselves, set intentions, and build inner calm before the day begins. Spiritual development is offered through non-denominational pathways, mentoring relationships, and values-based encouragement, supporting character formation and self-awareness.
As Bes & Beset - Leland Jackson Foundation Inc. evolves, we are preparing to launch a residential component that offers youth consistent housing, structure, and stability. In this planned expansion, students will experience safe, on-campus living with 24/7 supervision from trained staff, supportive routines, and community spaces designed to foster independence and growth. Daily life will include nutritious meals, personal care guidance, and balanced scheduling that helps students thrive both academically and emotionally.
We are currently developing our residential program to provide comprehensive, round-the-clock care and support for our students. This expansion represents our commitment to creating a true sanctuary where youth can thrive in all aspects of their development.
Join us in creating sanctuaries of belonging and restoration for displaced African American youth. Your support helps us provide these essential services to those who need them most.
